Egyptian Goose…so beautiful!

Hello everyone!

A native to Africa, South of the Sahara Desert, the Egyptian goose, is probably the most exotic goose species in the wild in Florida.

Egyptian geese were considered sacred by the Ancient Egyptians and appear in much of their artwork. https://www.sa-venues.com/wildlife/birds_egyptian_goose.htm

The Egyptian Goose is related to the shelduck, and is a cross between a duck and a goose.

  1. They are indeed beautiful.
I’ve photographed one wandering about the pathways in our zoo here in Melbourne, Australia, but never seen a mate. It wanders freely and is not caged, but I assume its been brought in from another country as they are not indigenous to Australia.

I’ve been following them for a few days now in a pond near home and it is fascinating to watch them swimming, walking around the pond and mixing with other birds. Thanks for visiting!
